NZ Schools Tour 2006

Apple Division, Renaissance Ltd was pleased to support NZ Schools Tour 2006

The Apple Division of Renaissance got behind NZ music by supporting it at grass-roots level with the 2006 NZ Schools Tour. The educational music tour aimed to inspire and motivate secondary school students to pursue their musical goals through practical workshops, as well as providing professional development opportunities for the emerging band who perform the succession of lunchtime concerts.

'Falter', 2003 Smokefreerockquest's national winners, headlined the tour for 2006, visiting over 50 schools nationwide in five short months. The tour proved a valuable launch pad for rising talent, with previous touring bands including local favourites Goodnight Nurse, Wash, Streetwise Scarlet and My Life Story, and the internationally successful Steriogram.

Workshops for 2006 focused on the topic of songwriting, following the band's creative process from conception to recording. They will made use of Apple eMac and iMac computers to demonstrate the latest recording techniques, including Garageband demonstrations, showcasing Apple's entry-level audio software that comes standard as part of the iLife suite.

High schools around the country were challenged to make a video on an interesting science topic, and the six winning teams were rewarded with their own documentary-making expedition, filming scientists at work in incredible locations around New Zealand. The teams were competing to win the ultimate BIG Science Adventure - a trip to Scott Base in Antarctica. All the teams traveled with graduates from the University of Otago National History Film-making Course, to give planning and technical assistance. With brand new MacBook Pro's on loan from the Apple Division of Renaissance, complete with the latest video-editing software, every team had a great shot at winning the competition.
