Multi-talented with achievements to match, The Nomad, aka Daimon Schwalger has taken the road less travelled in search of the good groove.

The internationally-renown and critically acclaimed DJ / producer has crafted a significant and successful career for more than a decade both behind the decks and in control of his production studio, having released five albums to date – with a sixth due for release later in 2007.

Beginning in 1993 in Dunedin, New Zealand, Schwlager has turned a passion for new music into a profession that has seen him DJ sell-out crowds around the world.

In addition, Schwalger runs record label Fresh Produce, equipped with his own music studio, and teaches logic pro & music production to the next generation of New Zealand’s musicians and producers.

The Nomad’s first album Movement, released in 1998 caught the attention of British dance music greats Rockers Hi Fi (Different Drummer, UK) to begin a partnership that spanned across subsequent releases. The Nomad’s acclaimed sophomore album Second Selection was released in 1999, laying the foundations for the Nomad’s unique blend of reggae, dub, hip-hop and electronica, containing tracks such as “141” featuring Farda P from Rockers Hi Fi.

Second Selection was awarded the “Best Dub/Hip-hop/Reggae Release” in the B-Net New Zealand Music Awards.

The Nomad established his prodigious credentials with album Level 3 in 2001. Singles ‘Betta Stand Up’, featuring Tiki Taane (Salmonella Dub), MC Antsman (Rhombus), Tehimana Kerr (Fat Freddys Drop) and ‘Musical Directions’ with The Black Seeds frontman Barnaby Weir, broadened The Nomad’s appeal into New Zealand’s music scene.

In keeping with The Nomad’s internationalist appeal, he employed dub legend The Mad Professor, fresh off a star-turn in remixing Massive Attack’s Protection with his fourth album, Step 4th (2003). Former Wham! Singer Pepsi Demacque laid down the vocals for ‘Destinations” and ‘Open Your Eyes’, as well as Brazilian chanteuse Alda Rezende, Oakley Grenell (OG), Tehimana Kerr (FFD). In addition to his own productions, The Nomad confirmed his remixing prowess with The Black Seeds’ ‘Coming Home’ for famed independent label Loop Recordings.

Released on the May 5, 2005 (5/5/05), Quinessence was The Nomad’s fifth album, featuring artists Rio Hemopo (Trinity Roots), Pepsi Demacque (UK), Tehimana Kerr and Imon Star (Rhombus/Olmecha Supreme). The Nomad toured Quinessence in 2005 with gigs in Europe and Australia

Schwalger lattest projects include a remixed King Kapisi track “Stand”, featuring legendary Jamaican singer-songwriter Luciano.

This remix includes the live session talents of bassist Crete Haami (Hollie Smith), Chris Yeabsley (Twinset), Tehimana Kerr (Fat Freddys Drop), O.G (Central records) and drums from Myele Manzana (Olmecha Supreme).

The Nomad recently released his first radio single for 2007, Breaking Rocks, which follows up on the acclaimed 2005 release Quinessence.

Featuring a cheeky sample from Nina Simone’s Work Song, Breaking Rocks fuses funk and soul with heavy rock riffs, courtesy of O.G.’s (guitar wizardry, pegged to a decadent break beat.

Future projects include mixing his 6th album as well as mixing the new albums from Christchurch based O.G as well as Christchurch singer song wrighter Lauren Mitchell and hip hop ledgend King Kapisi.
