Kiwi pop chick Carly Binding takes control of her own music with a little help from her iBook G4.

When Carly Binding was introduced to her new kit of audio gear, the Apple iBook G4 was definitely an instant favourite, “That’s sooo sexy!” exclaimed Binding as she picked up the iBook for a quick inspection.

Recently back from Australia where she has been promoting her debut album ‘Passenger’, Carly Binding, will be using her new Apple iBook to gain more independence over her next project. Binding says she is simply going to enjoy creating music by playing around on the iBook at home in her own time. Then when she has something she likes, she calls upon trusty sound engineer and band member Troy, to jam along on guitar and get the idea down.

Binding explains that she wants to take a different approach to this album:

“First time around I was very ambitious; I wanted to go really slick to prove it could be done and I could put a really good album on the table, this time I just want it to be all about the songs, and the heart, and the melody.”

After a great run in Australia, Carly is returning home to bring a little calm back into her life and work on demo’s for her next album.

Having an iBook, with GarageBand and Logic onboard means that Carly can relax and let her feet touch the ground while working at her own pace. This a welcome change after a hectic two years driving ‘Passenger’ which earnt nominations in the 2004 NZ Music Awards for both the Producer and Engineering categories for the excellent work performed by Chris Van de Geer and Andrew Maclaren.

Binding expresses a passion not only for her music but for the tools, which turn her creative ideas into great pop tracks, “Logic rocks! It makes everything so accessible, I’ve been jealously waiting to get mine!”

‘Passenger’, which encompassed the hit singles ‘Alright With Me’ and ‘We Kissed’, was produced with Stellar’s Andrew Maclaren and Chris Van de Geer, with a number of tracks mixed in Los Angeles by Chris Lord-Alge.

Another example of Carly’s mantra to get stuck in and do it herself, is the revamp of her website, www.carlybinding.com. Binding plans on putting her creative talents to good use redesigning the whole site herself in what she describes as ‘scrapbook style’ using Macromedia Dreamweaver. The website can then be updated with new diary entries and photos on the fly using Dreamweaver from her Apple iBook
